How to Stop Wrinkles?


As we get older we all start looking at out face and think “I wish my skin didn’t have these lines” or “When I smile there are so many wrinkles around my eyes.”


Being a healthcare profession with an interest in beauty I get asked the question all the time “Majida how do you stop getting wrinkles?”

Now lines or wrinkles form due to the natural ageing process so as we get older our body produces less collagen and oil in our skin causing it to become more drier, thinner and reduces in elasticity.


Today I am going to dedicate this blog post on the five ways that you can prevent wrinkles and I will give you the science behind it. Tip 1- Sunblock

Protect your skin against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays and this means not just on holiday but 365 days a year. After you finish moisturising your skin put a layer of sun protection that has a SPF of 35 or higher. I tend to purchase the children sunblock as it tends to be SPF50 and use this everyday even in winter. This will not only prevent you getting wrinkles but will reduce your risk of any skin cancers.




Tip 2- Lifestyle

  1. If you smoke? Stop and for the best support seek medical advice on the best method for you. Nicotine in cigarettes causes blood vessel to narrow which reduces blood flow preventing oxygen and important nutrients such as vitamin A and C getting to the skin. Nicotine promotes dehydration and promotes collagen breakdown. In addition as you smoke lines are formed through the pursing of the lips.
  2. Drink plenty of water to make sure your hydrated this will prevent skin getting dry.
  3. Eat nuts, fish and seeds these are high in Omega 3 which helps make essential fatty acids that keeps skin supple.
  4. Eat rainbow fruit- Bright coloured fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which helps skin from free radical damage.
  5. Have a multi-vitamin


Tip 3 – Anti-wrinkle Creams

There are so many anti-wrinkle creams on the market and it is important to look at the ingredients to determine how effective they are going to be. I have searched and mentioned products that are easily available.


The most effective ingredients are:

  1. Retinol– This is a vitamin A derivative and most effective ingredient shown in smoothing wrinkles, unclogging pore. Eg: Indeed Labs Retinol Reface Retinol Skin Resurfacer 30ml
  2. Niacinamide– Vitamin B3 prevents melanin or pigmentation from rising to the surface so can help reduce skin spots and improves collagen production. Eg: Olay Anti-wrinkle Firm and Lift Deep Wrinkle Treatment 30ml
  3. Hyaluronic Acid– This absorbs up to 1000x its weight in water bringing hydration back to the skin. Eg: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel 50ml 
  4. Alpha Hydroxy Acids– They originate from milk and fruit sugars and exfoliate the skin and essentially remove the top layer of skin and help the new skin to grow. Eg: Alpha- H- Liquid Gold 2 for 1 Duo 2x100ml 
  5. Ascorbic Acid– Vitamin C has a number of benefits from evening out your skin tone, revitalising skin surface and brighten and tighten skin. Eg: The Body Shop Vitamin C 30ml 



Tip 4- Facials or Treatments

The best dermal facials are the ones that combine products that have ingredients mentioned above and these are available at health spas up and down the country.


Tip 5- Anti-Wrinkle Injectionss and crow’s feat. Very small amounts are injected in specific points and a relatively quick and safe procedure performed by a healthcare professional. This usually gives good and most effective results that are visible within 14 days and can last for 3-6months.
