Dermal Fillers

When we first began our dermal filler treatments in our clinic there was a lot of confusion as to what exactly the treatment was, how it was different to other ‘age-defying’ treatments as well as how long the effects would last.

In this blog I will be telling you the ‘need to knows’ and what to expect on the day of the treatment.

What is a dermal filler?

First of all, the big question “what are they?”

Dermal fillers are essentially hyaluronic acid which is found in the skin so your body will absorb and breakdown the dermal filler with time. This means the products used our clinic are very safe and much more natural than you may have initially thought. It is injected in small amounts using a small fine needle in the required areas.

Treatment Areas

Dermal fillers can be used on a number of areas to correct your appearance which may otherwise required surgical procedures such as non-surgical rhinoplasty and chin augmentation. Generally  the main aim of dermal fillers is to rejuvenate the skin by smoothing out any fine lines and correcting volume loss that occurs during the ageing process. Dermal fillers can give you a fresher, younger and more ‘awake’ appearance.

Areas that we commonly treat are:

  • Lip Augmentations
  • Cheek Enhancement
  • Tear Troughs – Lines at the edge of the eye and underneath in the ‘eyebag’ area
  • Glabellar Lines, Forehead Lines and Neck lines
  • Nasolabial Folds- These are lines between the lips and nose area
  • Non-surgical Rhinoplasty-  alternative to a “surgical nose job” that otherwise would have caused £1000s
  • Mesotherapy – Age-related Wrinkles (hands and chest area)

Procedure

If you are not quite sure if dermal fillers are the correct treatment for you. We provide free consultations before the procedure for clients to voice their concerns and to put to rest any nerves. In consultations our clinicians will give you a more personal overview of the areas that you may consider to treat. Take some “before” pictures which helps discuss the possibilities and areas of improvement.  The procedure will be explained from start to finish  as well as give aftercare advice.

Once the treatment is booked our medically trained aesthetic practitioner will conduct an assessment of the area concerned which will include how best to treat it and what will be required. Each person is different with individual needs and so appointment times are catered accordingly. Typically the time take to complete the procedure is usually 45 minutes with the numbing cream taking up to 20 minute to take effect. Dermal fillers that have local anaesthetic mixed in with the hyaluronic acid can also be purchased which maybe beneficial to individuals that are very sensitive to pain.

The area is then cleaned and numbing cream is applied.  The process itself involves injecting small amount of dermal fillers to the site. This may cause some discomfort. Once injected the clinician may have to mould the gel in to place as some areas are a little more tricky to inject, so don’t be surprised if you find the areas injected being massaged.

Aftercare

Expect to see some swelling after the procedure especially in the first 24 hours but this usually starts to subside after 48 hours. Minimal bruising can occur but generally you can jump right back into your normal routine straight after the procedure. Dermal Fillers can last anywhere from 6 months up to 2 years depending on the type of filler used. We provide regular check–ups and aftercare so that the treatment so we can monitor and maintain your results.

BREAKDOWN:

  • Great results at reasonable prices
  • Not permanent
  • Uses safe ingredients that are already present in the body
  • Little recovery time (Swelling in the first 24 hours)
  • Quick procedure
  • Regular check ups to make sure all is going well

Charging is based on the amount of filler used per syringe. One syringe can hold up to 1.0 mil of solution and is usually enough to treat both the top and bottom lips however it may vary from person to person depending on the look desired. Dermal fillers can be topped up after two weeks to allow for recovery. In situations where you’ve bought more than you needed we can put the syringe aside for you and you can always pop back in for a touch up and use the remaining amount.
